Crowns

A dental crown is an artificial restoration that is fitted over the remaining part of a pre-treated tooth, making it stronger and is shaped like a natural tooth. They are most commonly used when on teeth that have been damaged or weakened by decay, fillings, cracks or chips.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures available and, when performed by a dental professional, is  safe and very effective.Over the years, lifestyle habits like smoking and food and beverage choices can all take their toll on your teeth. Some people have teeth that are stained due to certain medications or exposure to excess fluoride while the teeth are developing. As a result, teeth can become stained and discoloured. Teeth whitening is a procedure that can help lift deep-seated stains, improving the overall colour by several shades, so you receive a gleaming smile.

What Is the Procedure for Teeth Whitening?

Before you can have any teeth whitening procedure, we must ensure your teeth are strong and healthy, and you shouldn’t have any signs of active gum disease or untreated cavities. Once we are sure teeth whitening is appropriate, we need to clean your teeth professionally. Our dental hygienist will remove all plaque and tartar buildup, as a cleaner surface helps the whitening agents penetrate your teeth more evenly and effectively.

One popular way to whiten teeth is in our dental clinic, in a treatment that will take as little as an hour. We protect your lips and gums before applying professional strength whitening gel that gently yet effectively bleaches your teeth. Another option is a custom-made whitening kit, where our dentist will fabricate teeth whitening trays and prescribe professional-grade whitening gel so you can brighten your teeth in the privacy of your own home. Treatment does take a little longer to complete, typically around two weeks, but it does give you greater control. It can be ideal for anyone with particularly sensitive teeth who prefers to whiten more slowly.

Veneers

Dental veneers are very thin shells of porcelain  fitted over the front surface of a tooth. They can improve the appearance of a tooth that is stained or discoloured, worn, slightly chipped, too short or not quite the ideal shape or size. Veneers can also help bring slightly misaligned teeth back into alignment, creating a more perfect smile. The difference between veneers and crowns can be confusing, but a crown covers the entire tooth and is thicker than a veneer. In comparison, a veneer will only cover the front surface of the tooth. A veneer is minimally invasive as only a small amount of tooth enamel is removed during preparation. The Procedure for Dental Venee

What Is the Procedure for Veneers?

Our dentist will carefully prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of tooth enamel. This is usually about 0.5 mm in thickness, approximately the same thickness as the veneer and ensures once your veneers are fitted, they do not feel too big and bulky. Next, we take a detailed dental impression so your veneers can be fabricated in our dental lab. While they are being made, we may protect your teeth with temporary veneers. Once the veneers are ready, you return to our dental practice so we can remove the temporary veneers and fit your new porcelain veneers. We can make any small adjustments necessary before permanently bonding them in place.

Inlays

If you have a larger cavity affecting a back tooth, we may recommend you have an inlay or onlay. Inlays and onlays are indirect fillings. Instead of being placed immediately into the prepared cavity, they are fabricated in a dental laboratory using a detailed dental impression of the cavity. An inlay or onlay can be made from tooth-coloured composite resin or a strong ceramic material that is harder wearing than composite and ideal for larger cavities that require extra support.

What Is the Procedure for an Inlay or Onlay?

First, we numb it thoroughly using a local anaesthetic to ensure you feel comfortable. Next, our cosmetic dentist carefully prepares the tooth, removing all the damaged portions before taking a detailed dental impression. The inlay or onlay is fabricated to our exact prescription in our dental laboratory. We will select a shade of composite resin or porcelain that blends in beautifully with your natural tooth. Once it is ready, we can fit the restoration, make any adjustments required and permanently cement it in place. It should be virtually invisible. The inlay or onlay is precision-made to fit the cavity exactly, protecting your tooth and restoring its appearance and functionality.
