Advantages of implant supported bridges over fixed bridges and removable dentures:
A gap left by more than one tooth can also be filled with a bridge. As with a single gap tooth, this can be done with a bridge supported by the healthy teeth on each side. This involves some risk to the healthy teeth. Another option is a partial removable denture, but this has the usual problems of removable dentures – like the inability to eat certain foods – and, like the tooth-supported bridge, has no connection with the bone underneath, which can gradually atrophy over time.
Implant supported bridges replace missing teeth without disturbing the healthy adjacent teeth. Unlike ordinary dental bridges and dentures, implant-supported bridges look almost identical to natural teeth, and they are very long lasting. Implants are not prone to the same problems of receding gums as dentures and dental bridges. An implant also maintains the long-term health of the jawbone underneath, because it imitates the natural root in transmitting the force on the tooth. This prevents the bone from atrophying and maintains an attractive smile.
